How To Undo In Microsoft OneNote (2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, and Office 365)

You can use the Undo function in OneNote to revert anything you might type or change on the page, adding an image to a note, formatting text, or typing and deleting text. How To Undo in Microsoft OneNote using Quick Access Toolbar

The default location of the Quick Access Toolbar is inside the title bar of the OneNote application window, but it can also be configured to display below the ribbon. In addition to giving you quick access to common OneNote commands, the toolbar also includes a customizable drop-down menu that contains the complete set of default commands you can toggle on or off in the bar. Fortunately for us, the Undo and Redo buttons are enabled by default.

  1. Access the Undo command by clicking on the undo button on the Quick Access Toolbar.

The Undo command button also has a drop-down menu that lets you review the past several actions you’ve performed that that can be undone, and clicking on one of them will undo all actions back to that point.

Once you have undone a particular action, if you decide that you wanted that change after all you also have the option to redo your last action. The redo button is also in the Quick Access Toolbar.

Access the Redo command by clicking on the redo or button on the Quick Access Toolbar.

The buttons will also work with text that you’ve pasted in, images or movie media that you have placed on the page, background color and heading changes, and most other types of actions in OneNote. You can continue click the button to undo multiple times if needed.

How To Undo in Microsoft OneNote using Keyboard Commands

Just as with any Microsoft Office software program or most Windows and Macintosh programs in general, you can use standard keyboard commands to perform undo and redo actions. The keyboard commands will work the same way as pressing the button in the quick access toolbar, making it a very quick way to undo deleting note, for example. Note that certain actions cannot be undone with either method, such as saving your note pagel.

To undo in Microsoft OneNote on Windows,

  1. Press Ctrl+Z for undo.
  2. Press Ctrl+Y for redo.

And, to perform the same commands on a Mac,

  1. Press Cmd ⌘+Z for undo.
  2. Press Cmd ⌘+Y for redo.
